Fiona McDonald
When I was a little girl I wanted to make beautiful things for a living, including picture books.
To further this dream I spent four years of intensive study at the Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney. From there I moved to the Blue Mountains and began making painted cloth dolls and figurative sculpture.
After my son was born, I enrolled at university to study literature. This brought me back to the idea of writing books.
Isabel Atherton of Creative Authors agreed to become my literary agent and since then I have been writing and illustrating full time.
I now live in the town I was born in, Armidale, in northern NSW. I have two grown up children, a granddaughter, three dogs, a cat, a rabbit and one ancient hen.

Dear Fiona, I have never written any fiction in my life before, but beginning mid way next year, I will retire from academic life, to begin a new career as a hopeful novelist. Not that I can even read fiction! The last book of fiction I read was 1984, when I was about 26. I have started reading articles that describe how to write fiction and maybe next year I will need to complete Writing Novels 101! I enjoyed reading your piece. Seems like you have been successful – congratulations, and I enjoyed reading your piece above. Janice Langan-Fox
